2005-2015: On September 24, 2013 the tide gates at McDaniel Slough were removed as part of the McDaniel Slough Restoration and Enhancement Project at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary, Arcata, California. Designed to accommodate sea-level rise, the project returned 250 acres to natural tidal influence for bird and fish habitat as well as improved drainage for Arcata’a stormwater runoff.
